Joy As An Act Of Resistance
Idles
The second record of Bristol’s post-punk band. The title sets up a thesis that the album earns. Songs are loud and blunt, but the radical act Idles is selling isn’t the rage, but the vulnerability underneath it. Talbot described it as “a brave naked smile in this shitty new world.” The lyrics move through toxic masculinity, immigration, Brexit, and class.
